In a perfect world, everyone would have straight pearly white teeth and be beaming with confidence. But since this isn’t a perfect world, here at Beam Orthodontics we will help you make your world feel perfect. With so many unique smiles coming and going, we are prepared to help everyone leave our office fully satisfied with their braces.

Sometimes braces aren’t just for straightening teeth. There are cases where patients need to wear braces to fix their teeth because it causes them jaw pain to eat, talk, or just in general. Orthodontists have been using braces for over 100 years because they are guaranteed to work.

What Are Braces?

Braces are made of three components:

(1) Brackets that are glued onto your teeth,

(2) Arch wires that go through each individual bracket that was placed,

(3) Ligatures–which are tiny rubber bands that come in a variety of colors–hold the wire to the brackets causing your teeth to slowly move together over time. They can also come in a metal form, which your orthodontist will tighten during each visit.

While wearing braces, your teeth will loosen up at the root and begin to adjust to their correct form.

Pros & Cons of Braces

The main Pro about having braces is that at the end of the treatment you will have straight teeth. Another pro is that there are more options now of wearing braces. There is now Invisalign, clear braces, and after retainers to keep them straight. Depending on what your orthodontist would recommend, you can talk to them about these options and see what works best for you. The con part of metal braces is you may lose a few ligatures, a bracket may break, the wire can poke your gums, strict food intake, and increase on the oral hygiene. It may seem like a nightmare at first but the outcome is so worth it. Plus as mentioned before you have multiple options now to have braces and not just metal.  And even though it seems like a “con”  at first when you know you have to give up some things you love. But when you’re finished with your treatment, you’re not only getting straight teeth, but you’re also getting that confidence in your smile again and an improvement in your overall health.
